Catching up on various anime
Aug. 22nd, 2019 06:16 pm I think it was two months ago when I started to watch JJBA from the very beginning because nothing for the summer season of simulcasts seemed all that interesting to me, and I'm still waiting for some other anime to come back at some point like Sangatsu no Lion.
Anyways, it never really seemed like an anime I would get into but what pushed me over the edge was at the time I was playing Disgaea 5 Complete, and the Japanese VA for Red Magnus was mainly known for his role as Dio in JJBA--and it sounded a lot like he was having fun with the part while throwing some JoJo references here and there with the acting.
I honestly have a hard time articulating what makes this show appealing?? Fast-paced and so completely over-the-top that I question how the writers and animators got away with passing the scenes to begin with I guess?
Some fight scenes are unnecessarily visceral, but then my suspension of disbelief goes out window when someone has a 10-minute long speech of revenge after they've been decapitated which has to be the antithesis of Azula striking Aang in the back before he can power up. It feels like a total parody of a serious drama, while being seriously committed to one-upping itself.
Boruto is the guilty-pleasure watch for sure too, but I was also slow to jump on that since I didn't even technically finish Naruto in the very end. I wasn't very die-hard about keeping up to date with it when BNHA also had a cast of kids but they just seemed overall smarter and less annoying to watch as they grow up. However, since BNHA is sort of on an animated hiatus, Boruto feels like a stroll down memory lane (and a dance of victory depending what ship wars people were entangled with back in the day--not for me personally but I'm happy for everyone else lol).

Maybe I could sum it up as "this show is so dumb but WAIT it gets DUMBER, and also you'll still love the sassy lines anyway."
Still, I guess I've barely dipped my toes into the series--we just got done watching the Young Caesar episode and while I do want to be able to catch up to what was currently airing just a few weeks ago, it's... a lot to catch up on.Boruto is the guilty-pleasure watch for sure too, but I was also slow to jump on that since I didn't even technically finish Naruto in the very end.
